Open English?

I admit that it has been hard for me learning English. First of all, at secondary school the English teacher didn't care so much that his students learn it well. He just talked the entire class even if nobody paid attention him. I was one of few people who paid attention him but after all, I didn't learn so much, I mean, only to write in English, because the education’s quality here in Chile is far from excellent, so to speak.

But every changed at college. Here I'm forced to learn English especially for academic works, I mean, I have to be able to read text and books in English, and also for professional work area, to talk with people from other countries, or to read manuals, etc. But my experience of learning English here has been completely different than school, so I'm glad for that. I know that I have so much to learn yet but, at least, I had advanced in speak and pronunciation. I liked so much to have this subject now in the university.

Using blogs I have learned to think and write better, and I think it is a good tool for learning any language that you want. The good thing about blogs is that you can share your opinions and having a conversation or discuss -always in good terms- with other people, and that feedback makes you improve.

Well, as I said before, I need to improve my speaking and pronunciation, and I want to do it talking in English with my friends, seeing more movies and listening a lot of songs. I have discovered that need of mine in the class, when I want to say something but I didn't know how to say it, or pronounce it, or whatever. I'm get a little nervous because of that, but I know that if I practice, I can improve, so I should do it outside the class too… Finally, I think the most important for learn any foreign language is the motivation and hard work, because as says the proverb “practice makes perfect”.

The Pink Panther

Well, my childhood was far away from the city so I didn’t read comic books, because there are so much fun activities in my home… Well, not so many as for don’t watch TV. I remember when I was a child my mom didn’t let me see the TV so much time, but when she let me see it, with my little sister we watched “The pink panther”. That cartoon was important on my life because made me discover a entire world outside my house, I mean, to find that “my” world was connected with “another” world, today I know that it’s the globalisation… Obviously, that was my first contact with the TV, and I admit that this square box fascinated me a little bit. However my mom and my grandparents had control my TV time and today I can say, saves my childhood of stupidity. Thanks to them!

I stopped to see them very often because I grew up, and along that cames a lot of responsibilities. I haven’t time for see it, and also my interests has naturally changed. (movies, music, etc.)

Well, “The pink panther” was an animated character created by Friz Freleng. Only I know that, besides the cartoon, there are movies, TV series and video games of this pink character. (Yes, I saw the movie and played its game when I was a kid). This cartoon was a comedy that told the adventures of the Pink Panther. This character was dumb, pink and so much funny! I liked for two things. First because it makes me laugh and second because its beautiful music, composed by Henry Mancini. That jazz song changed my life.

For a Eco-Santiago

This particular issue I thinks its deserve the most of our attention. First, because our quality life depends of that and second, because I don’t see that so many people here in Chile (and I’m included) are doing something about. Well, It’s true that they teach us some environmentally friendly practices in primary or high school (Even in college too). But that’s insufficient. I admite that I haven’t incorporated that recycling habit, because even if I recycle my home garbage, the guys of the city’s cleaning service (which are a private service, by the way) put all the garbage together in the truck and throw it again in the dump, without recycling before. I don’t know if the dumps are municipal, but I think that It’s like every chilean institution, private. And like private company they don’t think so much on recycling. And that has to change soon!

I certainly would like to have some of those good habits to help the world as use a bike, but I’m not from Santiago, and my bicycle is in my another house. But I don’t use a car either. I use the bus, but the Transantiago’s buses aren’t very ecological too! Well, I haven’t joined any Eco-organisations yet, because desinformation I guess. But I try myself to reduce energy consumption in my home and wherever I go. Also I join with my family to “Earth Hour” since two years ago. I would like to do so many things, but the main thing for me is to make energy-independent my home, using solar and wind energy.

Well, finally I don’t do many things to reduce my carbon footprint, but I’ll start searching and getting more information about this issue to make any change in my lifestyle a little bit. I think everybody see how damage we’re doing to our city. We’re missing a clean air, clean rivers, clean soil and all the farming products from it. Let’s do something!

The silence's World Cup

Well, if you are a fan of soccer you sure now that the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014 is coming very soon. The TV news wants to make feel the people interesting and excited for the event. But that’s not the reality. By example, yesterday I saw on news that everybody in Brazil aren’t interested on World Cup. All because the social crisis that the World Cup’s organization has generated in the country. “The people in brazil is upset because the government spends the hundreds of millions of dollars on building stadiums and road infrastructure for the World Cup, and they don't spend anything on education, public health or fight against poverty or drug trafficking” said a popular brazilian writer. And seems like everybody in Brazil thinks the same way, ‘cause the cities still looking as if nothing will happen. The government's popularity has fastly decreased in last months because this organization includes a “pacification” of the most violent “favelas” or poor neighbourhoods, by example, in Rio de Janeiro. It has cost several human lives, mostly innocent children and youth used by the drug trafficking for his safety.

This news shocked me and makes me think about it. I think that the sports are good for children and youth, but the World Cup’s organization has committed several mistakes making the things that way now. When the sport activity tries to cover or silence the people demands, there is something wrong. Now I’m not so excited about this World Cup.

Work together again?

The article I have read is related to cinema, specifically about the work that Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie are developing for a future film. The article talks about the fact that this couple (married in the real life) haven’t worked together in a film since “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” in 2005, and that they will reunite for work in a movie project. In the article it’s says that this new project has based on a script written by Jolie. The plot is a mysterious, and that nobody knows yet if Pitt & Jolie will appear on screen or if they will work behind the camera. Is also known that both of them have worked behind the camera. Jolie has worked as producer and director and Pitt only as producer. In this respect, this article mention that the movie “12 Years A Slave” won the best picture Oscar this year, and Pitt was its producer. For its part, Jolie produced and directed “Unbroken”, a second world war survival drama that opening next December. As you see, both have a successful career such as actors but producers and directors (Jolie’s chase), and It’s so much difficult if we consider that they're a couple with 6 childrens, and this one project will make they work together for the first time since 9 years.

All night long!

Even if my memory was terrible, the most memorable party that I’ve had was my 20th birthday, almost two years ago. The party was a little one, only with my girlfriend and my family, but to me that’s the better way of having real fun and enjoy the company with the people that I love, and they loves you back. The party was in my grandparent’s house, because their house is bigger than mine and is a very quiet place. Also, for that days in October, the grass is greener there (and not at the other side of the fence) because the spring, and that’s wonderful because that house has a big courtyard with plants, eucaliptus, pines and other trees.

That party was important to me because it was the first birthday I spent with my girlfriend. Well, as you have notice this, I don’t like large parties so much because I’m a terrible dancer, I know it but I don’t mind. I like have some fun with people that I like and I can remember it at the next day. I don’t know, my ideal party would be playing and singing some guitar songs, also known as campfire songs or in spanish “canciones de fogata” with friends.

The Mist

I don't know which is the worst movie I ever saw, but the first bad movie that comes to my head is "The Mist". According to Wikipedia, this is a 2007 science fiction horror film, based on the novella of the same name by Stephen King. I saw it only once time with my sister and cousins, when I was around 16 years old. I remember that I had heard that it was a great movie, that scares you a lot. Personally I don't like so much these movies, but my sister and cousins wanted to see this film on the night, to make it more scaring, so I accepted.

The film's story was this. In a small town of Maine, after a violent thunderstorm emerges a thick mist that envolves all and killing all who are caught by darkness. The principal actors (Thomas Jane as David Drayton and Marcia Gay Harden as Mrs. Carmody, nobody that I know or like) are caught in a supermarket with other people of the town, and most of the film happens there because the mist is coming and no one can get out or ask for help. Why this movie is the worst to me? Is easy, because the movie didn't scare me. I feel that the movie had a ridiculous plot and I laughed whatching it, but I didn't enjoy it, at all! So that's why "The Mist" is the worst science fiction horror film that I ever saw.
